Match 16: Tower of Babel, Round 2 and 3

Previous Rounds: 01

Team Ragnorak falls behind after Round 1.  Team Neeson is favored by the Demon.  But for how long?
Only the purifying storms summoned by Ra's Al Ghul can seem to keep the Norse Gods at bay.  Will it be enough?

Quick note, upon further review, Balder's Resilience of Stone is an interrupt, so he second winds before damage from the cyberdemon attack is dealt. This actually works against him a bit, so he heals to 24 then takes 20 fire and thunder to drop to 4 hp.

    GAME ON.

  3. OOC: Quick question - Why did the cyber demon attack twice? The power specifies one creature.

Returning back to Midguard, The allfather looks around the map, feeling invigorated. "My good Balder, what ails you! Come, you are not ready for Valhala yet!"

Pointing his spear at the running Ra's, the allfather commands the viking hordes to swarm this foolish creature who believes himself immortal.

    Tech
Re-appear in E10 with 9 THP (Primordial Surge)
Minor: Inspiring Word on Balder. Healing Surge +1d6
Standard: Relentless Wounding on Ra's. +8 vs. AC (+6 +2 CA from him running). 3d10+4 damage, & all my allies gain +4 to damage against him til the end of the encounter. Power Not expended if I miss.
If Ra's goes down: Action Point: Race the Arrow on Aslan. +6 vs. AC 1d10+4. If I hit & Aslan is still alive, either Balder or Thor can charge Aslan with a +4 to damage
Move: If Aslan is dead, move to E12. Else, move to E5

As noted above the terrain power itself, the Cyberdemon punishes those outside the courtyard. The terrain power states one creature in order to prevent it from attacking the same dungeoneer more than each turn!

      [Carnage]
Balder heals for (6)+8=14 hp...Balder now at 18 hp
      Odin now has 9 THP

Relentless Wounding: (20!)+8 vs AC CRITICAL HIT! Ra's takes 34 damage, drops to -13 hp, and is GIBBED!

AP Race the Arrow: (7)+6 vs AC 17..miss! No charge, no killing spree

      Odin Moved to E5.

    2. Odin's move to E5 and onto the diamond plaform causes all dungeoneers within LoS of teleporter (2) knocked prone and then teleported adjacent to him. Too bad none are there!

Aslan, you have a gun, claws, and many foes upon the field. What do you do?

      Delete
    3. Do I get more guns and ammo, as I started on the cross-hairs?

      Delete
    4. Of course! You gain... THE BFG 9000!!!!!!

Wow, I really didn't expect to roll these items out sequentially..but so it is! Reminder, as you dropped unconscious, the plasma rifle is on the ground, requiring you to pick it up and use if wanted. And you must stay alive for the BFG to go off, KEEP THAT HAND ON THE TRIGGER KURT!

  4. [OOC] There really isn't anything in the power block itself to indicated anything about multiple attacks. Nor is there anything in the fluff. "... all those outside ..." would, but as written it's clearly a single target attack.

Terrain Hazards affect all those within its area of effect. This is how the map is played Live, and shall be continued as such in the pbp. But the discrepancy in wording has been noted, and will be changed forthwith following the match.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I have to agree that the wording is kind of shitty; but on eth DM's turn all creatures outside of the courtyard are attacked by the Cyberdemon.

      Delete
    3. There I fixed it.

Another note: The diamond powerup I've never been happy with and Sersa hasn't provided me with all that much direction on what he originally intended the powerups to do. For AFTER THIS MATCH, I'd be happy to take suggestions for a different benefit for the Diamond from you guys.

  5. Aslan quickly stands and looks around as if to silently say, “you didn’t see that” (he may be a lion, but he’s still a cat). He grabs the plasma riffle and aims it at the God of Thunder. “Thor Odinson, you control the power of the clouds, but how do you handle the power of the sun?” OOC: witty dialogue, why have thou forsaken me… I am totally forsook.

    Tech:
Move: Stand with cat like grace (using my jedi mind trick to convince people it’s cat like grace if necessary).
    Minor: Grab the plasma riffle.
Standard: Attack Thor with 5 shots of the plasma riffle. +8 (+6+2CA) vs. Ref (12). 5 fire/thunder damage per hit.

Plasma rifle attacks: (19, 6, 12, 9, 14)+6+2 (CA--RUNNING) vs Reflex 12...ALL HIT! Thats 25 fire and lightning damage to Thor. Thor drops to -2 hp!

  10. Flickering into view, the God of Mischief appears yet again. "I'm back boys. Did you miss me?" He saunters forward, looking at where the hunter lays charred. "And here I thought I was the one that was supposed to kill you. But, I'll settle for this." He looks at the big kitty, and sneers. "I've given birth to creatures larger and more majestic than you! I guess I'll just have to show these fools the proper way to skin a cat." He clenches his fist, a shimmering light taking the form of a long thin blade appears in his hand. He launches himself forward, leaping up into the air and thrusting the tip of his weapon between the shoulder blade and spine of his awkardly posed foe.

Damage: (8+4)+(6+3)+5=26 damage. Aslan is dropped to -15 and GIBBED.
TEAM NEESON HAS LOST THE LEAD!!!

Of note: The extra 1d8 from attack finesse only applies to assassin powers and MBAs...which eldritch strike is counted as. GREAT SYNERGY! (must remember to keep that build in mind for myself...)

Newbie question: do self-gibs for respawn count towards death count? Or does it only count if you are gibbed in combat?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh fuck yeah they count. It's all about keeping track of DEATHS, and Fourthcore, really, is about finding creative ways at not dying.

The default for play-by-post, so as to keep the game rolling along at a good clip, is that dying dungeoneers will always choose to kill themselves, respawn, and get back into the fun. However, one certainly does not have to do that, and can tell the Dungeon Master that they would like to take a death save for their turn. This is sometimes a good strategy towards the end of the match.

Now noone needs to look it up...

OOC: The Cyclone Scourge creates a zone that end at the end of my next turn, minor sustain. Once per turn as a free action I can shift someone who enters or end their turn in the zone 2 squares. I can move the zone 3 as a move action.

    5. Shouldn't Odin have gotten a save to avoid being slid? It was forced movement into a square that qualifies as hazardous terrain, regardless of the zone.

I'm going to assume you meant B9, as you'd have to be running to get to C9 due to the hard corner. Either way, just enough LoS to target both.

      Aslan marked.

Twin strike vs Aslan: (20)+7=27. CRIT!!! Aslan takes (10)+6=16 damage and is dropped to -3 hp!
Twin strike vs Qui-gon: (9)+7=16 vs AC 20+2 for cover...miss!

The God of lies respawns at location 1! Map Updated.

He makes a fist, and blowing on it, another long thin blade appears, and he rushes forward, his imagine shifting and flickering as he runs.

Charge to L10 with Eldritch Strike, +9 vs AC (16), 2d8+2d6+5 damage, +5 if bloodies.

Loki takes 10 fire damage from the courtyard and is at 22 hp.

Oskar returns to his factory (the boss always surprises you when he shows up), his workers continually falling prey to terrible working conditions!

CoMW vs Loki: (19)+4 vs Will..hit! Loki slid to 08 and dazed. He attacks himself with an eldritch strike: (8)+8=16 vs AC 13. Loki deals (8)+5+2=15 damage. Loki is bloodied at 7 hp.

Healing word on Aslan: (6)+5=11 hp. Aslan is prone but alive with 11 hp!

AP Nimbus vs Odin: (14)+10=24 vs Will 13. Hit!!! Odin takes (1+4)+3 radiant damage and is reduced to -17 and GIBBED. The railgun is free, and hilariously, all the weapons are sitting right next/on top of the crosshairs platform in pools of blood.

Aslan and Qui-Gon gain a +2 to all defenses UEoE.

It is now Qui-Gon's turn, who shall he face...Loki or Balder?

Map Updated shortly, it definitely needs it.

Map Updated. Also, Oskar takes 5 fire damage from the courtyard and is at 21 hp.

Let's do the time warp again!

As per email, because Rob is behind a non-FTDM friendly firewall at work: Ra's activates his staff of Defense against Loki's eldritch strike, gaining a +3 bonus (aka, JUST ENOUGH) to prevent the hit as an interrupt. Ra's back up with 22 hp.

    Oskar has been repositioned.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Loki ain't a trickster god for nothing! Just as Ra's blocks with his staff, the half-giant trickster slips the blade around the staff and somehow finds his heart.

    [OOC]
Ra's throws up staff of defense for +3 to AC...Loki's attack is a miss.
Then Loki uses heroic effort as a free action to gain a +4. No going back from here!
The final attack is therefore 22 vs AC 19.

Map and stats up to date.
    On with Qui-Gon's turn!

Else, if Balder is targeted, use Falcon's Mark on Loki

      [Carnage]
Qui-Gon moves to pentagram and scorches all w/i sight of teleport archway (4)! Loki takes 20 fire damage and is dropped to -13 hp.

Aslan then flies to D9...today is the day when lions fly...

Thor respawns at location 4. Can his dwarven legs get him to the BFG 9000?

      Delete
  39. OOC: BFG 9000? Well, he could, but then what? Move, move, minor to become THE TARGET, no AP.

Bifrost deposits Thor Odinson back in the outer courtyard, refreshed and ready for anything. Well, except perhaps a crazy whirlwind? Feh! This is the God of Thunder!

His heels thudding against the courtyard stones, Thor steps within sight of his prey, and whirls Mjolnr at a breakneck speed. Hurling himself through the maelstrom, the Asgardian makes to break Aslan upon the stone table!

    [Tech]
    Move: walk to J-16
Standard: charge Aslan with Howling Strike, jumping the Cyclone (here's where it gets a little crazy, Liams and Neesons)
       Squares of movement: I15-I14-H13-G12-F11-E10
Athletics: +11 - if Thor lands in H13, he needs to run to hit Aslan, but I can't find a square to be slid to that stops him from charging (I15 & I14 are a different story - Kurt would have to fail his tactics check for Thor to keep charging)
       Attack: +6 +1 (charge) +1 (Juggernaut) +2 (CA for prone) = +10 vs AC 19
       Hit: 2d6 brutal +1d6 +6
Drop Aslan below 0: Dark Reaping: +1d8+2 necrotic damage to next damage roll
On a Crit: MBA against Oskar: +7 vs AC 19; 2d6 brutal +6 damage +1d8+2 necrotic damage

Note: if the DM rules that the movement from the first move action doesn't count to give the Athletics check a "running start", I've actually got a completely different action ready.

James, your hurting your own cause here! Giving the enemy tactical advice?

Looks like jumps, RAW, you need to move at least 2 sq then make the jump attempt as part of the move action (which charge is, but your origin sq for the charge is a the beginning of the movement). You also technically cannot "run" with a charge (ie added movement for the -5 penalty). I had to check and be sure. Ya know, if Thor was taller or a thri-keen, we wouldn't be having all these jumping issues.

TL;DR: You would need to beat a 30 on the jump check, change the turn or give me the go-ahead to roll it!

    2. OOC: easy enough for a revenant to get speed 7, actually. (quick steps feat, 'cause dwarves still make the best revenants) Damn your Cyclone!!

Thor, looking one way and the other, decides to avoid the cyclone created by magic unknown to him, and strides north, Mjolnr swinging lazily by his knees.

He taps the unconscious Loki on the shoulder, and his eyes flutter open. "Come, brother. You have more tricks to play 'fore this day ends."

      [Tech]
Standard -> Move: walk to O-10
      Minor: Healing Word on Loki
Effect: surge+1d6, gains +2 power bonus to attacks UEMNT
