Play by Post FTDM 14 - Tomb of the Iron Lich


The Badass Dungeon Crushers descend into the unknown depths of the Tomb of the Iron Lich. Little do they know that the Deadly Viper Squad is there with only one mission, to Kill Ross!

California Mountain Snake starts at… Yes, you get to choose your starting location and weather whether you will choose a card.

  1. Elle Driver spawns on 3, whistling a little song. She glides through the empty tomb in the midnight hour until she reaches her objective. The DVA draws out a syringe and carefully draws the required deadly, eldricht energy from the arcane rune at her feet.

    TECH:
    No card draw.
    Spawn at 3.
    Move to N11.
    Fallen Needle to move to P13. (minor)
    Running Jump to V13. (Athletics +9)
    Activate QUAD DAMAGE. (free)

  2. Okay, we may have to put in a new rule... if you get a tune stuck in the DM's head you're gibbed. Okay probably not fair as I like the little song.

    Elle walk through the tomb unnoticed and will a little hop (15)+9=24 makes it across the pits. Now with a syringe of quad damage in had, she is ready for anything.

    The Queen of the Gorgons, Euryale is up. Tell me where you start and if you draw a card.

  5. Euryale looks to trap the California Mountain Snake. After cursing at her, Euryale attacks, (5)+6+4(Heroic Effort) = 15 Hit! Damage (3)+(4)+(6)+5 = 18 cold damage. Elle is bloody at 4 hp, and if she moves on her next turn, she will take an additional 2d6 cold damage and Euryale will get a +2 to attack rolls vs. Elle.

    It's now Black Mamba's turn. Do you take a card?

    3. Hey, aren't those hard corners to get out of the spawn point? You shouldn't be able to move & fire at Elle in just two actions. With a movement of 5,the best you should manage in one move is O or N15.

      So we don't have to do a turn do over, Bryan asked to spend his action point to get to P13. Everything is current, we can move on.

  6. The Bride wakes up from her coma, looking around at the weird place she was in now. No matter. She had a good feeling that if she was in this crappy place, sooner or later Ross was bound to be. She'd just bide her time for now until she could kill Ross. She wanders about a bit, and hefts her sword.

  7. The bride moves through the razorjack traps. (6) vs. AC, (4) vs. AC. She laughs at them and grabs the Vorpal Katana.

  9. O-Ren appears out of the southwest corner, taking in this dark place filled with death. Finally, she understands why Ross so admired this Iron Lich he spoke of often. With that, O-Ren bounds towards the sound of sharpening steel and readies herself near the Black Mamba. Ross will be here shortly, she must prepare.

    Double move to the vorpal runes at A12.
    Free action to Vorpal up!
    As per the FTDM rules, O-Ren will start in the aspect of the cunning fox stance.

    And what a card draw! Am I correct in assuming a card can be drawn more than once?

  11. O-Ren move toward the intimidating razorjacks. (11) and (11), both miss (okay the razorjacks aren't that intimidating for someone with a 22 AC). O-Ren grabs the vorpal katana and the Grinning Demon Mouth, now toothless closes.

    Per e-mail Sidewinder draws a card. It's the Oracle. Let me know when you want the character sheets, and you are on the honor system to delete the e-mail after you see the character sheets. Go ahead and take the rest of your turn.

  12. Budd appears in portal 3 and squints as he looks around, clutching a packet of dossiers on his targets. He shoulders his shotgun, and starts jogging after Elle. As he passes the gorgon queen, he tips his hat politely and hops the gap. "Ma'am."

    Standing on the rune of the Heresiarch, a blade appears in Sidewinder's hand. "Well, whattya know Elle? See what I got? A brand new Hanzo blade. Looks like the last of 'em too. That Ross is in for a world of hurt."

    Move: run to V-12, provoke OA from Euryale?, jump Athletics +4 (Budd never moved that quick in the film, ok? At least it's only one square.)
    Minor: Resistive Formula on CA Mtn. Snake
       Effect: CMS gains +1 AC until the end of the encounter. CMS can end this bonus as a free action to gain 8 temp HP.
    Free: staff gains Quad Damage.

    1. The whole 60 second rule was just there to make sure that, you know, everyone gets their character sheets back in a timely fashion. Realistically, I don't see the problem in a PbP setting to have all our PDFs distributed freely among Team Kill Ross for as long as you like. I say this, and it hurts, because it's giving my enemies a bigger benefit.

  17. Ok LAST CORRECTION. I will not use my furious assault on Budd. My attack vs him is +14 vs ac 2d8 +3d6 +7.
    Action point.melee Basic vs. Elle. +8 vs ac 2d8 + 7 (furious assault on hit).

  18. Okay, let me catch up a little... On Budd's turn, he's attacked by Euryale, which is (3)+1+2=6 vs. 15, a solid miss. Budd's jump is (8)+4=12, just barely making it. There are no more Quad damages left now.

    Marduk now goes. There is a jump in the middle of the charge I assume... which is (1)+5=6 Marduk does not make it. On the fall, Marduk takes 1 damage, but I assume he uses his acrobatics to avoid that (so no damage taken). That's a tough break for the Badasses.

    Teurama grabs the Lover card... Fate is with her. While within 2 square of an ally, she gains resist all 5 and can use second wind as a free action. Map to be updated after work. Sorry for the slow updates (or amazement at the quick turns).

  22. Kotaresh is displeased with the performance of his allies.

    He declines to take a card, not liking the odds against him.

    Entering the arena, he opens the gates of battle, and ends those who laughingly draw breath without his permission.

    Start: Spawn at 3
    Move: Open the Gates of Battle (Move) to reach O12
    Standard: Charge Budd. Athletics is +10 to get over the pit. Melee Basic plus furious assault (to Budd) plus Flurry of Blows (to Elle). +6 vs AC, 2d10+3 to Budd, auto 8 to Elle.
    AP: Weapon of Astral Flame to Budd. +6 vs Ref. 1d10+3 fire. If the charge missed but this hits, Furious Assault and Flurry of Blows as above.
    Minor: Weapon of Astral Flame on Budd. +3 vs Ref. 1d10 fire.

  24. Okay, there is no minor action because it's after the charge and it's not necessary to sustain the weapon this turn.

    Kotaresh Opens the gates of battle. The athletics role for jumping the pit is (17)+10=27... so you stay in the air why you attack due to the amazing role. The attack on Budd is (18)+6=24 vs. 15, a solid hit for (6)+(6)+3=15 leaving Budd bloodied at 12 hp. The flurry of blows takes Elle down to -4.

    The Weapon of Astral Flame attack: (20)+6 vs. 15 CRITICAL. Budd takes 13 points of fire damage and is now at -1.

      The redneck resolve in Budd's eyes flare to an otherworldly intensity as the eldritch magicks of the Tomb enhance the assassin's survivability.
