GenCon 2011 FTDM: Sights & Sounds

During GenCon, I was able to interview the top four FTDM teams. Some interviews were prior to the event, some immediately after.

Fourthcore Team Deathmatch Interview - Team Critzkrieg!

The first minute and a half or so has pretty low volume. My apologies. We had some technical difficulties.

Fourthcore Team Deathmatch Interview - Team Nighthawk!

Fourthcore Team Deathmatch Interview - combined Teams Cellar Dwellers and Don't Make This Weird!

Pictures below!

Pre-Game / Prep

Benoit setting up his table full of beautiful cast-stone terrain.

Top: Critzkrieg Jon Paul, Karl, Graham. Bottom: Cellar Dwellers

40" banner-sized ladder bracket

The calm before the storm in Sagamore. Our tables on the left. This whole hall had its collective attention focused on the intensity and energy pouring out of the FTDM corner.

E1M1: Slaughterhouse

Sersa V (left) presiding over the dungeoneers.

A 3-way dance of death as 12 dungeoneers fight a desperate fight for their lives....in the meat grinder!

The intensity is overpowering, the energy unstoppable. NO ONE CAN SIT! Too much is at stake! Also, candy.

Fuck you, end of encounter zones that are represented by a green d6.

E1M2: The Citadel

This Benoit cast-stone terrain is sweet!

Angry DM, hilarious! The whole hour he's just ripping on people. I think he felt bad for not being ENOUGH of a thorn in the dungeoneers' sides. In the end, he congratulated them on being consummate dungeoneers, expert players, and a pleasure to game with. ONLY IN FOURTHCORE DOE STHIS SHIT HAPPEN!!!

Team Don't Make This Weird deep in thought. "How do I totally screw my enemy THIS round?"

Pre-game prep. The hallmark to a good dungeon master is being prepared.

E1M3: Tomb of the Iron Lich
Pre-game prep. Critzkrieg prepares to unleash E1M3's tumblemines on those who saw them defeated.

As I upload and post this image, I so regret not snatching up Benoit's epic cast-stone terrain for this map. Amazing!

Every dungeoneer here is a stone-faced killer. Their gaze intent. Their movements precise.

Fuck you, Four-Armed Iron Golem Souldriver represented by a troll mini!

And candy. Plus, look how old school that map is. Hot!

Post-Game / Victory

DMTW and CD extend hands of friendship immediately after the match, recognizing the fellow competitive table top gamer across from them. Camaraderie through shared suffering. You guys are ALL awesome.

Cellar Dwellers taking in the magnitude of deadly traps inherent in E1M3. "Can we ally to destroy the Iron Golem?"

Cheap trophies? Yes. But none ever so hard won. None ever so appreciated and deserved.

Cellar Dwellers: Fourthcore Champions!

The only question remains: when is the next con that can handle the Fourthcore Team Deathmatch?
