FTDM 12 - Army of Darkness - Round 1

The peasants have all left the region fearing the three great evils converging here for battle; the undead, corporate greed, and the army of dorkness. Most are hoping that the undead win.
Comic Book Guy is the first to make it through the dark portal, appearing at location 4 and grabs the necronomicon
Lowe's appears at location 2 and gives Comic Book Guy a minor bruise.
Scott Pilgrim appears at location 2 and gives Lowe's the axe.
Wil Wheaton beams in at location 2. A swing and a miss at Lowe's
K-Mart appears at location 3 heals Lowe's and pushes Scott Pilgrim in danger.
Walmart appears in location 2 telefragging Scott Pilgrim and then slashing the comic book competition dropping Comic Book Guy and bloodying Wil Wheaton.
Igor appears at location 2 and fights back against Walmart. But with all his min/maxing skill he cannot avoid the fickle finger of fate and pulls a Deadite from the ground.
Home Depot pops up at location 1 swing what appears to be a great hit on Igor, but the little geek dodges at the last second.

New post here: round 2

  1. Jeff Albertson, comic book store owner extraordinaire, is unfazed by his recent appearance in what seems to be another dimensions. "Oh, how droll. Are those ugly things supposed to be threatening? I've seen worse in line at Comic Con." Seeing a mint-condition one of a kind book just sitting there, he runs to snatch it up before someone else lays their greasy fingers on it. "I've spent my entire life doing nothing but collecting comic books... and now there's only time to say... LIFE WELL SPENT!"

    Move: Run to G3.
Minor: Spend a healing surge and claim the Necronomicon.
    Move: Run to K8.

    1. Comic Book Guy has a move of 5. So even running, he can only get to G4. Please modify your move.

    2. Apologies.

I'll double move to G3 and grab the book, then.

      Delete
    3. Actually if it's possible to get on the altar at H2, I'll do that.

  2. Comic Book Guy climbs up on the alter and grabs the mint condition Necronomicon (note: it will be near mint if used).

    Lowe's appears at location 2.

    1. OOC: I believe the proper grammar would be: " a lowe's appears at location 2, former site of grandmas old-fashioned craft store."

      Delete
    2. Yes, yes, you're correct. (Freaking grammar Nazis! :P )

  3. OOC: We'll bring in more business than that little old lady ever could!

The employee walks into the area, pulling on her vest and paying no mind to the crowd outside. "Just another day as usual. Wait, what do we have here? A shoplifter?! Not on my opening shift!" She grabs a large piece of rebar and bashes the would-be thief over the head.

    Tech:

    Move: Move to I4

Standard: Lesser Aspect of Wrath on CBG
    +7 vs Will
    On hit: 1d8+4 damage
Effect: Gain 10 Temporary Hit Points. Also, until end of encounter, I have +1 attack and any enemies that end their turn adjacent to me take 3 radiant damage

    ReplyDelete
  4. OOC: I don't recall Lowe's carrying comic books or books of the dead...

The Lowe's employee attacks (6)+7+2(CA) = 15 vs. Will of 15, hitting Comic Book Guy in the head for (1)+4 = 5 damage; leaving Comic Book Guy at 22 hp. The good PR for fighting off shoplifters adds 10 points to Lowe's stock and other stuff as well.

Scott Pilgrim appears to be looking for grandma's shop and enters at location 2 as well.

  5. Scott steps into the arena. "Oh C'mon Ramona, I don't have magic roller blades like you! Where'd you go?" Seeing the department store in front of him, Scott sighs. "Oh, let me guess, another ex you forgot to tell me about? Might as well get this over with."

Scott takes a moment to psyche himself up, before bashing the department store over the head with his guita-er-his axe.

    Tech:
Minor: Shroud of Shadow - I have concealment til EoNT & 5 THP
    Move: Shift to J5
Standard: Vengeance Strike (dealing 4 damage to myself to add 4 to the damage & using Dread Smite) +6 vs. AC
    Hit: 1d10+4+4(cha)+6(Dread Smite)+2(Vengeance Strike) + 5 ongoing cold/necrotic (save ends)
    Miss: 6 cold/necrotic damage

End of turn I take 3 radiant damage, so that leaves me at 24HP after THP

    ReplyDelete
  6. Scott brings the axe down on the Lowe's. (17)+6=23 vs. 17 hit! For (10)+4+4+6+2 = 26 (ghetto crit.) points of damage leaving the bloody Lowe's with only 12 hp and ongoing damage.

Wil Wheaton appears at the ever popular location 2.

  7. Raising his blazing light sword aloft, Wil roars triumphantly.

"This is way better than anything they gave me on the Enterprise set! Have at thee, faceless corporate stooge!"

Whipping his blade snicker-snak, he kalumphs forward, his hand out raised in blatant force choke imitation.

    TECH:

minor action: Bladesong until the end of my next turn, I gain a +2 power bonus to attack rolls and all defenses and a +5 power bonus to damage rolls.

move action: move to H4 (provoking an OA from Lowe's)

standard action: Melee basic attack: +8 vs. AC, on hit, 1d8+12 damage and trigger...

...no action: Unseen Hand Effect: 3 force damage to Lowe's and slide to K4.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wil is ready to fight the corporate titan. Attack (2) + 10 = 12 vs. 17. Miss. Wil drinks the hooch. Wil Wheaton's hands are still clean, what a sad development.

    A K-mart pops up a location 3.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh yeah, Lowe's OA is (5)+3=8 vs 21 which is very much a miss. Wil does take 3 radiant damage for standing next to Lowe's (the blinding florescent light) so he's now at 19 (I'll update this in the next map update).

      Delete
    2. Whil relishes the hooch, as it makes him stronger!

    3. And more attractive to women. I'll also update Wil's status to include Beer Goggles.

  9. Well, it's already August, so we have to move some of this Halloween merchandise to make way for the Thanksgiving stuff. But first, a spiff for one of our corporate partners!

Oh, and while we're at it, "Hello shoppers! Blue light telefrag special on aisle 4!"

    [Tech]
    Move: walk to I-8
Minor: Majestic Word on Lowe's. Spends a surge, gains 7+4 HP, and slides to I-5 (Lowe's doesn't activate Stand Your Ground).
Lowe's' Free Action: Will of the Living. Wil and Scott take 5 radiant damage.
Standard: Staggering Note on Scott (using Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes if within 4 of hitting)
Attack: +4 vs Will 17 (damn that concealment)
Hit: 4 thunder damage, and push to K-4. Lowe's takes a melee basic attack before the push.

    ReplyDelete
  10. K-Mart Move and gives an infusion of cash to Lowe's. Lights, bells, and whistles go off blinding those around the store. Will is at 14 hp and Scott at 19 hp.

Attack against Scott (12)+(3, memory)+4-2=17 vs. 15 hit. Lowe's attack (9)+3-2=10 vs. 20 miss. Scott is now at 15 hp and in spawn point 2.

At which point, a Walmart pops up at location 2 crushing the competition. Scott is gibbed. The Army of Dorkness has lost the lead.

  11. "Clean up in the graphic novels department..wait, seriously, we have that?"
Trapping 79 customer inside trying to get into the single check-out line (of 25 available but not opened, of course), Walmart moves towards the owner of the androids dungeon, willing to slash his prices and give him a standard 0.1% commission on all sales from here on out. This is the corporations opening move when negio...taking over small businesses.

"Attention shoppers, we've just announced a clearance sale on all in-store copies of "Stand By Me", all prices marked down by...70%."

    OOC:
    Move to I2,

Std: Use Opening Move against CBG, +8 vs AC (+10 if I have CA...CBG isn't running, ya?)...2d5+5 damage on a hit, I gain a +4 to AC and Reflex UEoNT.

Minor action to use improved razor storm, CB 2, should target CBG, Wil, and a few deadites: +7 vs Reflex, 1d8+5 damage and 5 ongoing.

    1. Not running, and on the altar so not sure if that counts as adjacent.

      Delete
    2. OOC: The map doesn't state the altar is any higher (like the walls around the forge). Also, any adjacent dungeoneer to the altar grants CA...so it should be +10 vs AC and add the +2d6 sneak attack damage on a hit against CBG. I assume the altar's steps don't count as adjacent, so Wheaton is safe.

      Delete
    3. Rule clarification/interpretation: The alter is in G2 and H2. It is at the same level as the surrounding ground (though that 6 inch step will trip up many people). The alter and the brown area around it on the map are the spaces adjacent (standing on the alter is considered adjacent to it).

Also, the Deadites visible are not on the board yet as they are not in a square with a coordinate.

  12. Walmart tries to close down the Android's Dungeon by killing the owner. Attack (19)+8+2(CA)=29 vs. 16. Hit! (5)+(5)+(3)+(4)+5=23 points of damage, dropping Comic Book Guy to -1. Walmart gains a defense bonus.

The price slashing storm attack vs. Comic Book Guy: (13)+7+2(CA)=22 vs. 11, hit. Against Wil Wheaton: (18)+7=25 vs. 17 hit. Damage (4)+5=9 hp and ongoing damage. Comic Book Guy holds on at -10 and Wil Wheaton falls to 5 hp.

  14. Corporations move fast, and no one is faster at moving into an area and dominating the market like WalmartZ,

    ACTION POINT!

Use AP for deft strike, move to I4, +8 vs AC, 1d6+5 on a hit....gotta try for the shopping...I mean killing spree.

  15. Dude, I just updated the map and now I have to update it again. I'm temped to say, "no dice", but hey it's D&D it's all about dice.

Moving to I4 grants Wil an OA (unless you specify how you move, I assume a straight line, so if you wish to avoid OAs please specify). (10)+8=18 vs. 21 miss.

Walmart's attack (10)+8=18 vs. 21 miss. Okay nothing on the map changed except Walmart's 2 spaces south. I'm not updating until after Igor's turn.

  16. A moment ago Igor was playing Warhamster at Pegasaurus Games. However when he rolled a 1, a void opened in the gamer continuum and he warped here, screaming "HUZZAH!"

He taunts his foes, saying "COME AND GET ME", then lunges towards Walmart, yelling "MONOPOLY FOR $5?!! HOW CAN THE LFGS SURVIVE!"

    Tech:

Minor: Activate Duelist's Prowess. Until the stance ends, whenever an enemy hits or misses Igor, he can choose to use Duelist's Prowess Attack power against it as an Immediate Interrupt.

    Move: to position J3

Standard: Perform "Opening Move" encounter power on Walmart w/ rapier. +10 vs. AC (w/ CA b/c Walmart is adjacent to altar), on hit, 2d8+5(+2d6 sneak attack) damage. Effect: Igor gains power bonus to AC and Reflex equal to 4 (2 from Artful Dodger + 2 from Cha mod.) until EoNT.

    3. Like what just happened with me thinking Walmart was in a different place than the map? Yup. LOL.

OK, since Walmart DOESN'T grant CA from the adjacent to the altar thing, change my move to J4 so I still get CA from flanking Walmart with Wil. So nothing really changes except my movement.

    4. Great minds think alike Deuce. I used a different minor of course, but yeah it looks like our characters are pretty similar builds.

    5. Then I hope to draw the "kill your doppelgänger, gain a level" card first!

  17. Thank you for updating your move before I got to the post. I was debating dinging you for that mistake.

Igor is now in the Duelist's Prowess stance... note that stances end why you die so don't die (bwah ha ha).

Igor attempts to stop Walmart's low prices (though he'd totally be there if they sold D&D books cheap). Attack (1)+10=11 vs. 21. Not only a miss but HUMILIATION! At least you still get the defense bonus.

I need a Corporate Raider to place a Deadite next to Igor (DeuceDM preferably).

Home Depot will be starting at location 1 after a Deadite is placed. As I don't want to update the map twice, the Deadite can be placed at I3, J3, J5, K3, K4, or K5. (Yes, yes, I'm being a lazy DM, but I'm multitasking with work).

    1. Oh, the total on the attack is 13 due to CA, but still a miss.

    2. I3 is a good spot for the deadite. And don't apoglize, your the DM. Get the updates when you can, we'll be fine.

    3. A Deadite pops out of the ground; "Grrr, Argh." It clears it's throat and asks the Dorks, "Hey do you have change for a Mountain Dew? I have a nasty caffeine headache. Then I'll eat your souls."

Home Depot, finish the round off.

  18. "Excuse me, sir? My husband accidentally knocked a hole in the wall while trying to turn off a smoke detector. Do you have something for that?"

"Yes, ma'am, it's right over here - next to the cans of WHOOP ASS!"

    Tech:
    Move: to J5
Standard: Awaken the Slumbering Hurt vs. Igor (+5 vs Fort): 2d8 + 6 + 6 (Flurry) + 3 (if Igor is bloodied) + 1d6 (Furious Assault if I hit).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Per e-mail, the move is the move part of Awaken the Slumbering Hurt and so doesn't provoke OAs. Igor's not bloodied and as this is a melee touch attack Furious Assult is 1d8.

Wow, cans of WHOOP ASS are only $5.95. Attack (7)+5=12 vs. 11. Hit! (2)+(6)+6+6+(8) = 28 hp taking Igor down to -4 hp. Stock up on WHOOP ASS while supplies last.

Things are looking dark for the Army of Dorkness. But look a plague of Deadites are raining down on both teams. Map to be updated in the next post (link to come).

  20. Wait a second... as an immediate interrupt to the attack, Igor uses Duelist Prowess to attack the Home Depot. +8 vs. Ref 1d8+5. Attack (13)+8=21 vs. 16. Hit! (1)+5 = 6 damage. The Home Depot will start the next round at 16 hp.

    1. Ooh, Igor, I forgot you are a Halfling. I should have waited to roll damage until asking about Second Chance. Rob let me know if you're using that before we end the round.

      Delete
    2. Hey Kurt, just got back to you via email. Yes in every case I will be using Second Chance on the first hit. It just makes the most sense that way and is easier to adjudicate than having to wait for me to say "WAIT I SECOND CHANCE".

So yes, Home Depot has to reroll that attack with a -5 to hit and no chance of a crit per Igor's Nimble Dodge.

But of course, keep the Duelist Prowess attack so Home Depot takes the 6 damage.

      "HUZZAH!"

      Delete
    3. Those are both Immediate Interrupts. So... you said keep the Duelist Prowess? Yes?

      Delete
    4. Just banged my head on my desk. But no, definitely keeping the Second Chance and saving Duelist's Prowess for another time. (To be fair, I never said I wanted to use it in the first place!)

      Delete
    5. Damn, that's right only 1 immediate action per round. So is it Second Chance or Duelist Prowess (and you won't be able to use another immediate until your next turn).

      Delete
    6. Okay second chance used not duelist prowess. There was no damage taken on the last turn then :(. I will repost Home Depot at full hp when I update the round 2 map.

      Delete
    7. Cool, glad we got that cleared up. From henceforth: Second Chance used (when I regain it of course) whenever Igor is hit for the first time. However Duelist's Prowess will be used the NEXT time someone attacks me in melee.

      Delete
  21. Per e-mail clarification, Igor uses second chance and due to a feat the attacker takes a -5 penalty to the new attack. Attack (9)+5-5=9 vs. 11 miss. Goodby beautiful amount of damage :(.
