Dungeon Master Benoit guides the dungeoneers into a new era of FTDM online play!
Recruitment is now officially open for Live Online Match 01! The match will run 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST, Sunday July 29th, with a goal of having all teams assembled by Friday, July 27.
Once you have signed up, you will be set up in a team of the Dungeon Master's devising. If you have friends you would like on your team, be sure to mention it and accommodations will be made. Players not currently participating in the PbP and new players will be given preferential placement. Once the roster has been filled, each team will have 2 short days to discuss strategies and tactics among themselves.
This will be a "Novice" match and will not be timed - like PbP, it will last 6 rounds. This will give players and DM alike the chance to familiarize themselves with the program without the pressure of the clock. A second match will run on the same map, time permitting. (Future "Expert" matches will be run as timed events, and will be for dungeoneers who have become familiar with the MapTool program.)
The match will use MapTool in tandem with either Skype or a Google+ hangout. Dungeoneers will be expected to come with their own token. Further information on these details will be emailed to the dungeoneers closer to the event.
This inaugural live online match will take place on the Hellstrider E9M1: Mutiny Aboard the Hellstrider.
Awesomesauce. Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteI will undoubtedly get bumped, but on the off chance I don't, I'm interested.
ReplyDeleteBooyah! Count me in if there is room.
ReplyDeleteI would be interested! Also, is there any chance of a pre-game 30 minute tech session to try and get the MapTool sorted out somewhere along the line?
ReplyDeleteThere will be an email with very basic instructions (which version to download, how to get a token set up, etc). Then, during the match there will be help as well. We'll all kind of be learning together. I'm fairly new to the program as well, so it won't be highly technical or complicated. We'll be using it bare bones.
ReplyDeleteDamn. Wish I could Play. But will be away from stable Internet for that whole Weekend.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I use Maptool & Skype to run one of my current Campaigns. It is quite Awesome. If you desire any assistance with it, just ask. I've mastered most of it.

We had an ok turnout with a 3v3 match on Hellstrider. I was able to race home and get in on the action on time, although my team (myself, Ian Kunx, and Lisa Stone of CCGD fame) got beat pretty bad by Benoit, Jon Green, and Deuce. Score was 8:5 maybe? It was your classic magic missiles and SHV for everybody kind of scenario.
ReplyDeleteOn the technical end, we started out with a lot of expected bumps and hitches using G+ hangouts with Roll20, although there were quite a few additional annoyances that we were not expecting. Once the tech was setup and everyone was up to speed, I felt that the technology was still not quite keeping up with my vision in that the gaming environment produced a relaxed and distracted atmosphere. Myself included; too many people chatted off-turn, got taken away from keyboard, had technical glitches that made them drop out of the match for a few minutes, bad lag causing some confusion, etc. A gib-timer would be a HUGE improvement here.
